This issue examines the incredible life and legacy of Mary Dowling, an Irish Catholic woman who, widowed young, led her family Kentucky distilling business to new heights, relocating to Juarez, Mexico after the onset of prohibition in the United States. It is believed that Chicago’s Al Capone was one of her most famous customers. We also trace my own family’s Juarez/Kentucky/Chicago connections and share the story of the bottle that is the crown jewel of my whiskey collection, a Dowling Deluxe bottled in bond bourbon that has been in my family for generations. Digest size, 24 pages.
